A mung bean is a little green bean that is consumed primarily in Southeast Asia, India, and China. In America we know them as bean sprouts. They are the long white tubes that get thrown into chinese food and pad thai. We sprout them a little differently and cook them up for a delicious snack!
We sprout mung beans to increase the protein content, improve their texture and flavor, and to remove the indigestible components that are in all beans, such as lectins and phytic acid. Sprouting converts those into nutritional elements and that makes the beans very digestible. Mung beans may be the most digestible plant-protein in the world. The texture of the sprouted bean creates the wonderful Crunch in Crunchsters.
Because the mung bean is sprouted, the protein content of the bean increases by 30%. They have REAL protein in them, not a chemical derivative, such as a protein isolate. That is why we always say “Snacking just got REAL”. In one serving, you will find 7g of protein. You also get 5g of prebiotic fiber, the good kind that feeds your lower gut. PLUS a treasure chest of minerals, such as; potassium, magnesium, folate, manganese, and many more.
Yes, they are flash fried in order to intentionally create that “indulgent snack” taste and mouthfeel. This allows you to satisfy cravings for empty calorie junk food with Crunchsters’ real nutrition that fills you up in a good way! After you have a bag of Crunchsters, you won’t want to reach for that bag of potato chips or puffs….
Mung Beans are on everyone’s “high satiety” short list of superfoods, which means that they “fill you up” in a good way, that lets you body feel “fed” from all of the proteins, prebiotic fibers, and minerals that are native to the mung bean.
Those are the husks of the mung beans that come off the beans when they sprout. We leave them in for three reasons: They provide a lot of the healthful minerals in Crunchsters, they hold the spices and distribute the flavor throughout the bag, and they give you a finer, more high frequency crunch that contrasts with the thicker crunch of the mung bean itself. Put these two textures together and you have yourself a little symphony of crunch in your mouth that changes with every mouthful, not like potato chips that are the same monochromatic texture with every mouthful.

Yes! Everything we make is non-GMO. The Sea Salt, Beyond Bacon, and Barbeque are non GMO Project Verified.
The only non-GMO Project Verified exception is the Smokey Balsamic flavor. It uses Balsamic vinegar powder, an ingredient for which there are no non-GMO Project Verified sources that we can find, and we have looked. The manufacturer of this ingredient certifies to us that it is derived from non-GMO inputs.
The white distilled vinegar powder used in Smokey Balsamic is non-GMO Project Verified as we have been able to locate non-GMO PV sources for that ingredient.
The Smokey Balsamic flavor uses balsamic vinegar powder that is made with “IP maltodextrin”. The “IP” stands for “Identity Preserved”, which is the manufacturer's guarantee that the maltodextrin (corn or rice powder) used to make the ingredient is not genetically modified in any way, so it is also a non-GMO ingredient, just not “Project Verified”.
